Why should I work with a surrogacy agency?

Surrogacy can be a long and complicated process for Intended Parents who try to do it all themselves. Every journey involves legal, medical, and lifestyle considerations that require specific understanding, knowledge, and experience that most intended parents don’t have. An agency is there to anticipate issues and potential problems from the very start so the entire process goes smoothly and quickly. The agency plays a vital role as the middle party between Intended Parents and their surrogate to help mediate issues that come up along the way. This allows the surrogate to focus on creating a healthy and happy environment for baby to grow and the Intended Parents to focus on preparing their hearts and home to welcome their baby.

How long does the surrogacy process take?

From choosing an agency to welcoming your new baby, the average surrogacy journey takes 18-24 months. Although each journey is unique and dependent on finding just the right surrogate match, finalizing the legal documentation, and timing the medical procedures just right, we strive to make the journey as short as possible at Aspen Surrogacy Group by working to brilliantly match our Intended Parents with their surrogate much faster than most agencies (we strive for 8-12 week turn around in this area, instead of 6-12 months that many agencies provide), cutting down the overall timeline with ASG to 15-18 months.

What requirements do our surrogates have to meet?

Every surrogate is hand chosen to match with Intended Parents who have similar values, lifestyle, and communication expectations. Our surrogates must meet all of the ASRM guidelines for surrogacy (these requirements include age, mental and physical health, financial stability, proven pregnancies, etc) as well as more specific guidelines that we have that truly set our surrogates apart. Aspen Surrogacy only accepts surrogates into our program that already practice a balanced and healthy lifestyle – We look for women who regularly exercise, eat nutritiously and consciously, take care of their mental health, and practice emotional wellbeing.

What is the difference between gestational and traditional surrogacy?

Aspen Surrogacy only provides gestational surrogacy support. Gestational surrogacy is when an embryo created by the Intended Parents, using either their own eggs and sperm or that of a donor, is transferred to the surrogate’s uterus via IVF. The surrogate is not genetically related to the embryo. In traditional surrogacy, which Aspen Surrogacy does not provide, the surrogate’s own egg is fertilized so that the surrogate is genetically related to the embryo.

Will breast milk be provided to parents after birth?

Aspen Surrogacy can assist parents in planning breast milk deliveries for their baby. Breast milk can be included as part of the surrogate’s contract or coordinated with a third party.

Do surrogates suffer any adverse effects from surrogacy?

We require all surrogates to have already had children, ensuring that a surrogate can successfully complete a pregnancy and is familiar with both the physical and mental effects of pregnancy. Our surrogates also undergo a mental health evaluation as well as medical screening. However, there are always risks. That’s why Aspen Surrogacy makes sure our surrogates are provided with services from mental health professionals throughout the pregnancy and after birth, as well as benefits like yoga, wellness support that includes acupuncture or chiropractic work, and weekly check-ins with our team.

What if the surrogate decides she wants to keep the baby?

A surrogate deciding to keep the baby is a pop culture myth. A legal contract, in addition to pre- and post-birth orders, ensures the baby remains the Intended Parent’s. Additionally, Aspen Surrogacy only works with surrogates in the most surrogate-friendly states in the United States to ensure a smooth transfer of the baby into the care of their parent(s) after birth.
